Get instructions for the planned visit
Ask the company for a written preparation sheet before moving belongings or arranging time away. Inspection, heat work and other treatment approaches can require different preparation. Confirm which rooms are included, what the company will move and what it expects you to do.
EPA notes that bed bug treatment is complex and often needs multiple visits. Ask about the complete proposed course and monitoring, rather than treating the first appointment as the whole job. EPA's guide to hiring a bed bug professional explains that approach.
Plan how belongings will be handled
Avoid carrying loose items from an affected room into an unaffected area. EPA recommends sealed bags when transporting items and keeping cleaned items protected. Agree the laundry and storage sequence with your provider, including what to do with items that cannot tolerate its recommended process. EPA's preparation guidance.
Ask before discarding a mattress or furniture. Record any requested disposal instructions, who will move the item and the appropriate local collection arrangements. Make a separate list for electronics, delicate belongings and items you cannot move so the provider can resolve those questions before arrival.
Build your preparation checklist
Use this planner to organize confirmations, household arrangements and remaining questions. It does not prescribe a treatment or replace the company's preparation sheet. Save or print the result and check it against the instructions for your appointment.
Build your visit preparation checklist
Make a checklist of practical arrangements and questions to confirm with your company before the visit.

Resolve access and household arrangements
Tell the company about pets, children, accessibility needs and any difficulty completing its requested preparation. Ask for suitable arrangements early; do not assume the same instructions fit every household.
- Confirm who will provide access and which areas the technician needs to reach.
- Ask whether occupants or animals need to leave and obtain the actual return instructions.
- For a shared building, ask the manager to coordinate any necessary access beyond your own unit.
- Agree who to call if preparation cannot be completed or the appointment changes.
Prepare for the days after the visit
Before the technician leaves, obtain the work record, cleaning and return instructions, monitoring arrangements and next contact date. Ask what observations to report and which actions could interfere with the planned follow-up. Keep a dated record rather than guessing whether a single sighting means the entire job has failed.
Compare bed bug treatment companies, read the bed bug guide for identification context, and use the follow-up checker to compare the included terms and unanswered questions.
